VIRGINIA

Here are my sweet babies! Lucy loved just sitting in the truck,
and Charlie, he LOVES trucks.
Just taking a break from packing.
Love this chubby baby!
Once Jeff left, the kids and I were homeless, and found refuge at my parents house.
It was NOT with out its trouble!!
About 3 hours after Jeff and his dad headed out on the 2,000 mile drive, I rushed up to Wyoming to get them a bag they had left. (obviously setting them back).
That night, I headed to a play with some of my fam, and got a call from my dad, saying
"um, you'd better come home, Lucy is throwing up". (Keep in mind my dad had just been trained on how to change a diaper, so this was WAY beyond his abilities!!)
Sure enough, sparing the yuckie details, the next 48 hours were filled with
no sleep, lots of washing, and LOTS of crying! (from everyone)
I still can't believe we survived, but we did.
We had a few play dates with some of the family before we left.
And luckly, the sickness hit before the departure.
The kids were GREAT on the plane!!!
The both ended up sleeping for about 45 min. and were better then I ever could
imagined!
Luckly we had endless treats (thanks Auds and Jenns!!!)
and plenty of new toys for both!
We made it in great time to Va. and all sprinted to dada!!!
Our second day here, after many exhausting hours unpacking, cleaning,
and getting some what situated (thanks a BILLION MOM!!!!!) we headed to
the Natural History Smithsonian.
FREE!!! LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The kids ran around, loved the exhibits, and I can't wait
to come back again and again and again!!!!
(Most attractions are free, which I had forgotten, and living just minutes away from down town D.C., we'll make that our second home! )

The big news, there was apparently a HUGE storm (like 12 " of snow) heading our way....
so, this was the chaos at the grocery store. The store was unlike anything I've EVER seen!!
Shelves were empty, the milk was being taken literally from the mild stockers hands,
and the lines for all 15 CHECK STANDS started in the ISLES, not the check stands.
We asked all types of people if we should take serious precautions. Most people just said it was crazy because of the concentration of people, and that most were immigrants. Being from Utah, and feeling quite confident with our snow abilities, were not worried.
Oh wow, were we informed wrong!!!
This is the picture, sill in the middle of the storm, that would eventually end up dumping 27" !!!
So, we were BIG TIME mis-informed with the details on the snow situation.
We were never told they don't plow, or keep up with the snow fall. AND we were NOT told
everything shuts down!! It was like a ghost town. Really, stores like Ross, Home Depot,
JoAnnes, Grocery stores ALL shut down, because people literally cannot get out of there homes. They do NOT plow our street, which means we go no where.
They do not plow, and with 27", thats more then most cars will navigate.
This is our beautiful tree out front, which is now half of what it was.
Welcome to VA!
Lucky for us, we had some major home projects to do. Window treatments,
carpet for the kids rooms and halls (I'll do picts later) more boxes to unpack,
and many other things.
My mom has been SUPER NANNY!!! We would be drowning in our
troubles with out her. We're getting there.
In the midst of the storm, Saturday afternoon.
Just on the corner of our street. Shown on Hillwood, and we live on Shady Lane.
(charming name, eh?)
Ok, our car. this is after the storm. By Utah standards, who are equipped to deal
with the snow, this is a lot of snow!
I knew we should have brought our skis.
How silly of us to think Sunday we could go to the city (since Church was canceled AGAIN).
Here is Jeff, attempting to shovel us out of the street.
We had made it down our driveway, into the street, and that was as far as we made it!!
Idiots we were, really. Behind Jeff is the huge tree that feel that morning, which blocked our street, and besides foot prints, there were no attempts to get out of our street.
No plows equals NO EXIT. Back to more baking!!!
Sunday evening turned into quite the spectacular evening. We headed for a walk,
and we all appreciated the fresh air.
We have so far LOVED loved it here, and can't wait for better weather, or at least weather that we can get further then our drive way.

Jackie, what an adventure! How great that you are so close to DC! It's one of my very favorite cities. I'm excited to hear more about it, so you'd better keep posting. :)

We got hit with the storm too! It really does shut things down doesn't it?
Pitt is not equipped to deal with snow at all either. I feel lucky that our road is on a bus line so we actually did get plowed... but besides that, I chose not to drive because it's too awful!
Good luck getting settled. We'll come visit you when the snow melts... which could be months!!
